Junior Pathways

Orienteering Victoria offers four championships a year where students can test their navigation skills in a controlled, suitable and yet challenging environment.

Victorian Primary Schools Orienteering Championships (VPSOC)

These are held in November, there are two championships 1. Eastern Zone and  2.Western Zone. Up to 22 schools compete at each event and between 400 and 700 students. A great day out! Students compete solo or in pairs in their class age categories e.g. Girls Grade 5 A, Girls Grade 5 Pairs.

Bendigo Orienteering Club runs a local Primary School Orienteering Championship in June each year.

Victorian Schools Mountain Bike Championships (VSMTBO)

Open to upper primary and secondary students. Held 2nd Friday in August at various locations on rotation (Lysterfield Lake Park, Woodlands Historic Park, You Yangs Regional Park). Students ride either as a solo or in pairs. It is a 2 hour score event.

Victorian Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships (VSSOC)

This Championship is open to all secondary school students. and is always held on the third Friday in May. Students compete at two levels A – for those students who have some experience navigating in bush and off track, B – for those students who have experience in school grounds and local parkland areas.

Victorian Junior Squads

Interested and keen secondary school students are invited to join the Victorian Junior Squad called ‘The Rebels’. Students performing well at VSSOC will be talent identified and invited to join “The Rebels”.

Victorian State Team

Each year a team of 8 boys and 8 girls are selected to represent Victoria at there Australian Schools Orienteering Championships (ASOC). These are held during the September holidays and are part of a 9-day orienteering carnival, held on rotation in different States each year.

Australian Representative Teams

Each year Orienteering Australia selects teams to compete at the following World Championships:

  • Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) – (20 yrs and under)
  • World Orienteering Championships (WOC) – ( 21 years and over)
  • Junior World Mountain Bike Orienteering  Championships (JWMTBO) – (20 yrs and under)
  • World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships (WMTBO) – ( 21 years and over)
